Non-US Citizens required to apply in person

Citizens from certain countries must apply in person. If you are a citizen of Afghanistan, CAR, DRC, France, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, S. Sudan, Syria, or Yemen, you must apply for a visa in person. This is due to the bilateral agreements signed or reached between China and the respective countries.

Please visit our respective visa pages for information on the documents you must bring. You do not need an appointment, but you must go to the consulate of your residing jurisdiction. In the U.S., there is 1 Chinese Embassy and 5 other consulates. Please see the link below for information on jurisdiction.

Once you have check which consulate has jurisdiction over your residing states, please visit the embassy or consulate’s website for appointment. Please contact the consulate directly if you have any questions or the appointment system does not function.







The processing time is usually 7-10 days with some applications requiring longer processing time.

You cannot request same day pick-up and the Embassy or Consulate will not mail your passport back.
